From urban crisis to creative explosion
Lisbon’s street art boom began after the 2008 crisis, becoming a tool for youth inclusion and urban transformation. Today, the city is one of the most powerful open-air galleries in Europe.
A city painted with stories
Walls tell narratives of identity, resistance, and creativity through massive murals with strong social and cultural messages. Artists express themselves using unique techniques and formats, from intricate tile panels to large-scale graffiti compositions.
Highlights along the route
We pass André Saraiva’s massive tile mural, Ogringo.75’s miniature tile panels, and works ranging from patchwork compositions to paintings inspired by traditional azulejos.
Masters of transformation
Vhils carves into walls with drills and chisels, revealing hidden layers and faces of Lisbon’s people. Bordalo II transforms discarded materials into large animal sculptures, critiquing consumerism and environmental collapse.
